Funeral services for August Samuel Bruggeman, 79, of St. Ansgar, who died Wednesday, July 29, 1987 at his home, were held Saturday, August 1 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, with the Reverend Elmer Ellefson officiating.

Mr. Bruggeman was born the son of Albert and Sara (Ehlke) Bruggeman, in Union Township. Mitchell County, on November 17, 1908. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith by the Reverend George Landgrebe and confirmed by the Reverend Ernest Lehmann at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, where he continued to be a life long member.

He farmed with his brothers and father until 1926 when he moved to a farm in Otranto Township that the family had purchased.

He was married to Phyllis Adams of rural St. Ansgar September 19, 1934. The couple farmed until May of 1973 when they retired and purchased a home in St. Ansgar. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary September 19, 1964.

Mr. Bruggeman enjoyed a hobby of making wooden toys and crafts.

Surviving are his wife, Phyllis of St. Ansgar; one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Audrey) Myhre; one son, Larry; a daughter-in-law, Karen (Bruggeman) Koethke; six grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence and Clarence, all of St. Ansgar.

He was preceded in death by a son, Albert William, and a grandson, John Dean Bruggeman.

Burial was in St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery.

His funeral service folder says the pallbearers were: Lawrence Bruggeman, Elden Bruggeman, Ronald Bruggeman, Darwin Bruggeman, Richard Brunner and Leo Kofoot. Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge.
