Memorial Services Held for Elva Blakestad July 18

Memorial services for Elva Blakestad, 70, of St. Ansgar, who died Sunday, July 15 [1990] at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, were held Wednesday, July 18, at First Lutheran Church here with the Reverend Stephen Engelstad officiating.

Elva Ione Anderson Blakestad was born July 31, 1919 to John T. and Irene (Galt) Anderson on a farm west of Meltonville. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith by the Reverand Olaf Langehough and was a member of First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. She graduated from high school in Otranto in 1937.

March 4, 1942 she was married to Lewis G. Blakestad. He died October 27, 1986. She owned and operated a restaurant in St. Ansgar for several years and later a drive-in south of town. Elva was a cook at the St. Ansgar Elementary School until her retirement. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed attending many of her grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenda and Carl Belz; three grandchildren, Shannon, Heidi and Holli Belz; one brother, Mahlon Anderson of Austin, Minnestoa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.

She was cremated and the interment was at Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Carpenter.
