OBITUARY: Robert D. Warrington, 1887-1980, Mitchell County, Iowa
Robert D. Warrington Funeral Held Saturday, October 4, 1980.
Funeral services for Robert D. Warrington, 93, of Mitchell, who died at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital October 1, were held October 4 at the Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with the Rev. Jack Cahill, pastor of the United Church of Christ of Osage, officiating.
Robert Dixon Warrington was born January 16, 1887 on a farm near St. Ansgar, the son of Samuel and Mary Jane (Attlesey) Warrington. He attended Mitchell high school and S.M.N.C. College in Austin, Minn. He was a member of the United Church of Christ.
Mr. Warrington married Nettie Koch in 1910, and two children were born to them. He held several bookkeeping positions, and also farmed for a time. He worked at the carpentry trade and owned and operated his nursery in Mitchell until his retirement. He was president and sexton of Oak Grove cemetery in Mitchell for 40 years.
Mr. Warrington served in the U.S. Army in World War I and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received at the Battle of St. Mihiel and Argonne Forest. He was a life member of the Walter T. Enneberg Post No. 358 of the American Legion in St. Ansgar. Also he was a member of the World War I Barracks and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7920, Osage.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Warrington; a sister, Mrs. Ada Gavier; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Leona Warrington; cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leonard; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Skuster and a brother, Herbert.
Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery with Rev. Cahill in charge of the committal services.
