Olaf M. Johnson 1914-2000
Olaf M. Johnson, 86, Rose Creek, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the Austin Medical Center.
Olaf was born on October 26, 1914 in Mitchell County, Iowa, to Ole and Nellie (Smith) Johnson. He served in the U.S. Army, 3rd Battalion of the Medical Corp during World War II, 1942-1945.
He was united in marriage to Mary Monica Reagan on Jan. 8, 1951, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Rose Creek. Olaf was owner-operator of Standard Oil in Rose Creek for many years, a charter member of the Rose Creek Fire Department for 34 years, past commander of the Adams American Legion and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He enjoyed many fishing trips, caring for his garden and playing cards with his friends.
He is survived by his wife Monica Johnson, Rose Creek; sister; Marjorie Bugge, Austin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Muriel and George Hangge; sisters-in-law, Adele Reagan, Austin, Genevieve Reagan, Rose Creek; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Adeline Johnson and Mildred Peterson.
Service: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Father Ruben Spinler officiating.
Visitation: There will be a 7 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
Interment: St. Peter's Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post No. 146.[Austin Daily Herald, Thursday, November 9, 2000]
