Katie L. Winer, 99

Katie L. Winer, 99, of Mankato, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato, Minnesota.

She was born on August 11, 1901, in Mitchell County, Iowa, to Chester and Mary (Johnson) Smalley. Katie graduated from Osage High School and went to teachers college. She taught country school near New Haven, Iowa.

Katie married Morse Wolff on June 18, 1924, in Iowa. They later moved to Minnesota and lived on a farm. Morse died in 1955. Katie then married Irving Winer in 1959 and she moved to his farm near McIntire, Iowa. Irving died in June 1961 and she later moved back to Austin.

She belonged to First United Methodist Church, which she was very active with. She liked playing cards and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Gordon Wolff, Adams; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Rolland Stoll, Mankato; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melbourne and Frances Smalley, Osage, Iowa, Ralph and Irene Smalley, Des Moines, Iowa, Helen Smalley, Osage, Dorothy Smalley, Osage; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Morse Wolff; her second husband, Irving Winer; four brothers and two sisters.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Clasen-Jordan Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Kronen officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery

Visitation: An hour before the service Monday at the chapel of Clasen-Jordan Mortuary.

Organist: Ruth Monson.

Soloist: Dick McIntosh

Casket bearers: Allan Smalley, David Smalley, Greg Penny, Steve Dammen, and Russell Smalley. honorary bearers: Doug Smalley, Darrell Smalley, Kevin Cole, and Tim Cole.
