Herman Krahn
1874-1957

NOTE: His mailing address and phone were actually Lyle, Minnesota.

Herman Frederick Krahn was born June 14, 1874, in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He was the son of Frederick Krahn and Amelia nee Talzmann [or more likely Salzmann].

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. On November 6, 1899, he married the former Ida Cordes and they lived on the farm northwest of Toeterville. They were the parents of one child, Wilmer.

Herman and Ida Krahn moved to Toeterville in 1935, when Wilmer married and took over the farm. Ida Krahn died on March 3, 1940, after which Herman made his home with his son. His eyesight had been failing for the last four or five years.

In February, 1956, at the time when the Rev. Meyer, then pastor of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Toeterville, announced that he would leave, Herman Krahn suffered a stroke. He was in the hospital for a time. Then in the Good Samaritan Home in Mason City, and on may 8, was taken to the Baldner Rest Home, Adams, Minnesota where he was until his death which came at 2:30 P.M. January 20, 1957, at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 6 days.

One brother and one sister preceded him in death as did his wife. Survivors include his son, Wilmer; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Langrock, Toeterville; a brother, Paul of Osage; three grandchildren, Fred, Jean, and Janice; relatives, many of which live around Toeterville and also in the vicinity of Fairmont and Welcome, Minnesota, and many friends.
