Carl O. Johnson Died
at Farm Near Orchard

OSAGE, IOWA - Funeral services will be held Thursday for Carl O. Johnson, 70, who died Monday evening at his home south of Orchard. He suffered a stroke last Thursday. Services will be at Champion's Funeral Home and at the Osage Lutheran Church, in charge of the Rev. T. Solem. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born on April 29, 1874, the son of Ole and Bertha Johnson, in Cedar township. He was reared in that vicinity, and attended the rural schools.

On March 21, 1906, He married Trena Sulland, who died on March 4, 1938. The couple had lived on one farm home their entire wedded life except for five years when they lived at Cedar Falls.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Victor Dieterichs, on the home farm, and Mrs. Arthur Soesbe** of Waterloo; one son, Cpl. Conrad Johnson, overseas; one sister, Olea K. Johnson of Walkerton, Indiana; and a brother, Lauritz Johnson, of near Riceville.

Carl Ole Johnson was born April 29, 1874 on a farm at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Ole Helgesen Johnson and Berthe Jensdatter, the sixth of their ten children.

He was baptized on May 31, 1874 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. His baptismal sponsors were: Hans Veine; Lars Finjarsen; Margrete Finsand and Marti Nilsen.
Carl was also confirmed at Rock Creek Lutheran on June 2, 1899.

1880: Ole Johnson 47, Betsy Johnson 42, Helena Johnson 15, Gunnel Johnson 13, Hans Johnson 11, Johannes Johnson 8, Carl Johnson 6, Ole Johnson 2, Maria Johnson 11m, Ole Larson 20.
1885: Oley H Johnson 52, Betsy Johnson 47,Helena Johnson 20, Kenstian Johnson 17, Louis Johnson 15, Johan Johnson 13, Carl Johnson 11, Julias Johnson 7, Maria Johnson 5, Olea Johnson 2.
1895: Carl Johnson age 20.
1900: Lauritz Johnson 30, Kari Johnson 28, Olvin H Johnson 5, Irvin B Johnson 4, Carl Johnson 26, Ole Johnson 67.

Carl married Katrina (Trena) Sulland (b 1880 Norway, d March 4, 1938 Floyd, Iowa) on March 21, 1906 at Mitchell, County Iowa.

The couple had three children:
Margaret (b 1907 Floyd Co);
Ruth C (May 13, 1913 Floyd Co, Iowa - November 5, 1985 Mitchell, Iowa) and
Conrad S (July 31, 1915 - March 1977 Iowa).

1910: Carl Ole Johnson 36, Ketrina Johnson 27, Margarita Johnson 3, Gabriel N Odden 50.
1925: Carl O Johnson 50, Trana Johnson 44, Ray Barkhart 40, Margert Johnson 17, Ruth Johnson 11, Conrad Johnson 8.

Found in the 1930 census at Cedar Falls, Black Hawk, Iowa: Carl O Johnson 56, Trena Johnson 49, Margaret Johnson 23, Ruth Johnson 16, Conrad Johnson 13.

Found in the 1940 census at Floyd, Floyd, Iowa: Carl O Johnson 66, Conrad Z Johnson 22. Farmer; finished 8th grade. Says married but he would have been widowed.

Carl O Johnson died August 21, 1944 at Orchard, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
