WALTER E. SHELDON

OSAGE, IOWA - Walter E. Sheldon, 77, chairman of the board and former president of the Home Trust and Savings Bank here, died on Wednesday at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital here, after a long illness.

Born March 24, 1888, at Burlington, Wisconsin, he came to Osage as a child. He was graduated in 1905 from Osage High School and attended Cedar Valley Seminary here. He graduated from Beloit College, in Wisconsin, in 1909. He taught for five years and was superintendent of school at St. Ansgar.

On June 1, 1914, he began work at the bank as assistant cashier. He became cashier in 1918 and until 1936 was vice president. From 1936 until 1964 he served as president.

Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys French, to whom he was married in 1910; two sons, Eugene F. Sheldon, Clinton; Robert F. Sheldon, Mason City; three grandchildren; and a brother, Allyn O. Sheldon, Boise, Idaho.

A sister, Alice preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at the First Congregational Church with burial in Osage Cemetery. The time of the funeral has not been set. Champion Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
