Carl Melvin Petersen was born on March 8, 1899 in Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of parents Christian Petersen, and Gunda Bakkum Petersen, He was baptized on April 13, 1899 at St. Ansgar Lutheran Church, and was confirmed on June 7, 1914 at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, near Lyle, Minnesota. He received his public school education in the rural schools near Lyle.

On March 23, 1945, he was united in marriage to Miss Olga Kyllo of Wanamingo, Minnesota, by the Reverend Arthur L. Swenson of Austin. They made their home on a farm southwest of Adams until 1950 when they moved into Adams Village, where he has continued to make his home, working at his trade as a carpenter throughout the community. He worked a full day on Saturday, April 27th, and retired about 11:00 o'Clock that evening.

A few hours after midnight, he was awakened by a severe chest pain, diagnosed by the doctor as Coronary Thrombosis. He was rushed to St. Olaf Hospital at Austin where he passed away a few minutes after reaching the hospital at the age of 58 years, one month, and 20 days.

He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his wife Olga; and two sisters, Olga, Mrs. Arthur Hofland, and Mrs. Palma Johnson of Austin, and a number of nieces and nephews. His parents, and a sister, Clara, Mrs. Ernest Boe, have preceded him in death. Carl will be remembered as a devoted husband and brother whose every consideration was for others. He enjoyed a wide range of friendships. His quiet way and Christian conduct and thoroughness in line of duty revealed the inner peace which passeth all understanding.

Funeral Services were held from the Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Rev. M.L. Witte, officiating on Wednesday, May 1, 1957. Mrs. M.L. Witte at the organ and Pastor Witte singing "Den Store Hvide Flok," provided the musical setting. The Adams Funeral Home was in charge. Burial was in the family lot of the Little Cedar Cemetery. Pallbearers were O.H. Otterness, Norby Chinander, J.C. Knutson, Edwin N. Johnson, Justin Tieman, and Olaus Julifs. Blessed be his memory.
