HANS O. WALSTAD, RETIRED TAILOR, DIED

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Our Savior's Lutheran church for Hans Walstad, 80, a retired Osage tailor, who died Sunday morning at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Walstad had been in failing health, and was a patient at the hospital for the past month.

The Rev. Obert Hoven and the Rev. E. Schlachtenhaufen, associate pastors of Our Savior's were in charge of the services. Arrangements were by C.R. Champion and Sons and burial was in the Osage cemetery.

Hans O. Walstad was born in Holmestrad, Norway, July 25, 1885, the son of Ole and Matilda Walstad. He was educated in Norway and became an apprentice tailor there. When he was 17 years old he came to the United States and began work as a tailor for Leuthold and Evens in Osage.

His marriage to Anna Rinnan of Osage took place on November 20, 1904. He worked as a tailor in LeRoy and Riceville. The family returned to Osage in 1910, and he practiced his trade until his retirement.

Mr. Walstad was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, and was a Mason.

Surviving are his wife, Anna, of Osage, one son, Ernest of Minneapolis; four daughters, Mrs. A. J. Sieberl (Ellen) of Moline, Illinois, and Mrs. Roy Birum (Thelma) and Mrs. Melvin Weinschenk (Gertrude) of Osage and Mrs. Morris Serleth (Shirley) of Mason City, 12 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Olaf of LeRoy, two sisters in Norway and one daughter, Harriett.

OSAGE, IOWA -- Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, for Hans Walstad, 80, retired Osage railor who died Sunday in a hospital here. Burial will be in Osage cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Anna; four daughters: Mrs. Al Siebels, Moline, Illinois, Mrs. Roy Birum and Mrs. Melvin Weinschenk, both of Osage, and Mrs. Morris Serleth, Mason City; a son, Ernest, Minneapolis.

Champion Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
