William L. Dieterichs, 1871-1963

Funeral services will be held Thursday for William Dieterichs, 91, who died at his home in Osage Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Dieterichs had been in failing health for several weeks.

Services are planned at the Champion Funeral Home a 1:15 p.m. and at St. John’s Lutheran church near Osage at 2 p.m. The Rev. Edward M. Lang, interim pastor of the church, will be in charge. Burial will be in the Calvary cemetery.

William Louis Dieterichs was born August 18, 1871, in Mitchell county, the son of Mr. And Mrs. Hermann Dieterichs. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran church. He attended the rural schools in the area, later becoming a farmer.

His marriage to Charlotte Johanna Becker took place March 22, 1898. They were the parents of nine children. She died December 28, 1918.

He was married to Lydia Hartwig at Olivia, Minnesota, September 28, 1935. They made their home south of Osage until the fall of 1942, when they moved to Osage. She died June 16, 1949. Mr. Dieterichs and Anna Metz Birkholz were married September 14, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage.

Surviving are his wife, Anna, and six children: Mrs. Fred Tresemer of Arlington, Maylon Dieterichs, Mrs. Laurence Champion and Paul Dieterichs of Osage; Frank of San Jose, CA; and Mrs. Conrad Nelson of Kensett.

Also surviving are four stepchildren, 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one brother, Carl of St. Ansgar, and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Ahrens of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his first two wives and three sons, Kurt, who died in infancy, Stanley and Theodore.
