Well-Known Osage
Woman, Mrs. F. W.
Kingsbury, Is Dead

As is the case when a person of outstanding usefulness is taken unexpectedly in the prime of life, the death of Mrs. Frank Kingsbury last Thursday evening cast a pronounced shadow over the community. The mysteries of providence and the uncertainties of life have engaged the thoughts and the conversion of people in general.

A mother in the prime of life, Mrs. Kingsbury's failure to recover from an operation came as a distinct shock. Up until a little more than a year ago she had enjoyed the best of health; and her continued activity in her varied lines of work concealed from most of her acquaintances the fact that she was not as strong as always. It was to correct this ailment, nothing of a malignant nature nor, seemingly, at all dangerous - that she submitted to an operation on the morning of August 30.

After the pain and discomfort attendant on the first few days of her convalescence, she showed every indication of a good recovery - with the single exception that she seemed abnormally weakened. Her last several days were, withal, pleasant ones, free from any sufferings beyond those of ordinary convalescence; and the end came quickly Thursday evening shortly before 6 o'clock, after only a few hours warning. The immediate cause of her death was embolism - the treacherous blood clot.

The deceased was born Anna Carter, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Carter, at West Union, Iowa, February 10, 1887, being born in the house in which her mother had been born, and in which, twenty-five years later, her own daughter, Josephine, was born - an interesting old homestead, filled with fascinating old objects of historical interest, and charged with memories of pioneer life in eastern Iowa.

She grew to womanhood there, and on November 23, 1910, was married to Frank W. Kingsbury, then engaged in the banking business in West Union. There they lived until 1916, their two sons, Robert and Bruce being born in West Union also. Then in that year (1916) they moved to Osage, Mr. Kingsbury joining his father, W. B. Kingsbury, in the conduct of the well-known hardware firm of Kingsbury & Sons.

During the fifteen years of her residence in Osage Mrs. Kingsbury and her family have been a large part of the church, school and social life of Osage. Active in different departments of the Baptist Church, of which she was a member. She also carried on work in the offices of the O.E.S., the P. E. O. and the D. A. R., as well as taking part in the parental auxiliaries of school life, and in local study clubs. Withal, her home and family came first, and the children she reared, instructed by high example as well as intelligent precept, remain as a monument to a life of industry, sacrifice and high ideals; rich in good works, if brief.

Besides the husband and three children, already named, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Carter, West Union, a brother and four sisters; Bruce, Wenatchee, Washington; Eleanora Davies, LaGrange, Illinois; Laura Ballinger, Long Beach, California; Carlotta Philips, Lewiston, Idaho; and Helen Anderson, West Union.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the Baptist Church, conducted by her pastor, Reverend John D. Kern, and burial was made in the Osage Cemetery.
