Oliver Marius Larson passed away on September 9, 1931.

He was born December 18, 1869, Mona, Iowa, the son of Martin Larson Hagen and Olia Teglesrud On April 25, 1897 he married Anna Caroline Gunderson.

Oliver enjoyed playing the violin and in March 1931 he won first prize in a fiddling contest. His winning number was "Pop Goes the Weasel" which he played with his violin resting on any part of his anatomy from his head to his heels including behind his back. The prize was a new violin.

They had four daughters; Irene (Henry) Stromley, Mona, Iowa, Mabel (Hartley) Penney. Lillian (Charles “Jud”) Osage, and Lulu (Clarence “Joe”) Hiner; and one son Orven who died at age nine.

Burial is at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa.

LARSON FUNERAL RITES AT MONA

OSAGE, IOWA -- The funeral of Oliver Myron Larson was conducted Saturday at the Lutheran Church in Mona, following services at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Hartley Penney.

He is survived by his widow, and four daughters: Mrs. Penney, Mrs. Joe Hiner, Miss Lilian Larson and Mrs. Irene Stromley.

Died Wednesday
At Penney Home

Oliver M. Larson, who had been ill for thirteen months, passed quietly away last Wednesday evening at 9:15 o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hartley Penney.

He had a long, painful illness, but was a patient and cheerful through the long ordeal.

Mr. Larson was born at Mona, Iowa, December 18, 1867. He was baptized by the Reverend Olson and confirmed at "Six Mile Grove" by the Reverend Lundebee.

On April 25, 1897, he was united in marriage to Anna Gunderson at Mona Lutheran Church by the Reverend J. Muller Eggen. To them were born five children, four of whom are living. Orven passed away August 19, 1913, at the age of 9 years. Those living to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father are: his wife and daughters, Mrs. Henry [Irene] Stromley, of Lyle, Minnesota; Mrs. Hartley [Mabel] Penney, Mrs. C. [Clarence] Russell [Lulu] Hiner, and Lillian Larson, Osage.

There are also two sisters, Mrs. Lena Arneson, Mona, and Mrs. Hannah Nielson, Yakima, Washington, four grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Hartley Penney home, Osage, Saturday forenoon at 11 o'clock, in charge of the Reverend T. P. Solem, and at the Mona Lutheran Church at 12:30, conducted by the Reverend Langehough and the Reverend Solem.

Relatives from away in attendance were: Mrs. Nels Nelson, Mrs. G. K. Gunderson and daughter, Evangeline, of Fennimore, Wisconsin.

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to our neighbors and friends for the kindness and sympathy shown us during the illness and after the death of our beloved husband and father; for the beautiful floral offerings; to Reverend Langehaugh and the Reverend Solem for their comforting messages; the Dahl quartet, Reverend Lanehough and Miss Blanche Berg for the beautiful songs. Mrs. O. M. Larson, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Penney, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stromley, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Hiner, Miss Lillian Larson.

NOTE: Not sure of Oliver's middle name. These two sources disagree on it -- Marius vs Myron.
However, a hundred years ago it was common to utilize "latin" equivalents of normal names, and Marius was possibly the latin version of Myron.
