Sophie Dorthea Dahms

Funeral services were held Friday, August 26, 1988 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, and Saturday, August 27 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Chicago, Illinois, for Sophie Dorthea Anna Oetjen Dahms, 92, St. Ansgar. She died Thursday, August 24, 1988 at the home of her daughter in St. Ansgar. Burial was in Concordia Cemetery, Forest Park, Illinois.

She was born February 14, 1896 in Waukesha County, Wisconsin to John and Meta Oetjen. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church, North Prairie, Wisconsin.

On December 28, 1920 she was united in marriage to Reverend Arthur C. Dahms of Chicago, Illinois. They made their home in Chicago where her husband served as a missionary to deaf persons and then served as pastor of St. James Lutheran Church and she was his help-mate.

Her hobby was quilting which she did every week at St. James Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1977; her daughter, June (Mrs. Edwin) Shuurz; her brother, Henry Oetjen; one sister in infancy; and one sister, Martha (Mrs. William) Jens.

Survivors include her son, Reverend Julius Dahms of Hammond, Indiana; three daughters, Joan (Mrs. Arnold) Feldt of St. Ansgar, Mae Dahms and Arta (Mrs. Blaine) Andrada of Minnetonka, Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and two sisters, Marie Oetjen and Mrs. Elsie Eggers of St. Ansgar; nieces and nephews.
