Oscar J. Johnson

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 30, 1988 at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, for Oscar J. Johnson, 88, of Marshalltown, and formerly of St. Ansgar. He died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 1988 at Grandview Heights Nursing Home, Marshalltown of natural causes. Dr. John Allen officiated and burial was in First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Mr. Johnson was born April 28, 1900 in Mitchell County to Julius and Martha Johnson. He was raised and educated in the St. Ansgar area and farmed.

On Sept. 3, 1930 he married Aedell Austinson in AUstin, Minnesota. She died in 1984.

From 1930 to 1936 the Johnsons lived in Otranto; from 1936 to 1971 in McIntire; from 1971 to 1982, south of LeGrand, and during 1982 and 1983 in Osage. In 1983 they moved to Marshalltown where he had been in a nursing home since 1986.

He was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown.

Survivors include one daughter, Ardis Luthe of Marshalltown; five sisters, Charlotte Marcusen of St. Ansgar, Alice Austinson of Riceville, Agnes DeMaris of Kensett, Esther Everson of Lyle, Minnesota, and Nellie Helfritz of Ringsted; and two brothers, Emil Johnson of Otranto and M.E. Johnson of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
