Memorial services were held Tuesday morning, October 25, 1988 at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, for Blanche Hansen, 98, of Osage. James S. Pittman, pastor of United Methodist Church officiated. Mrs. Hanson Died Saturday, October 22, 1988 at Maple Manor Nursing Home, Osage, of natural causes.

She was born April 14, 1890 at Walker to Eugene and Mary Babcock. She received her education in Walker and Iowa City schools, and taught in rural schools.

On October 5, 1910, she was married to Ray Smith. He died in 1925. She then worked as a practical nurse in the Waterloo area until 1941 when she married H. P. Hansen. He died the same year.

She also worked as a house mother for girls at the Braille and Sight Saving School in Vinton for a number of years. Following that she lived with her son, Thomas for three years on Adack in the Aleutian Islands. She came to Osage in 1960.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Osage and was instrumental in the organization of the Osage Senior Citizens. She had been a resident of Maple Manor since 1961.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one son; and one granddaughter.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Lyn (Evelyn) Cheney of Osage; one son, W. Clair Smith of Jesup; one sister, Eleanor Rogers of New Jersey; and four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
