John Michael Peterson

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - John Michael Peterson, 34, of 511 W. Fifth Street, St. Ansgar, died Sunday (Sept. 3, 1995) at Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn. after a six-month battle with leukemia.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty, with the Rev. Stephen Meyer and the Rev. Paul Otting, of St. Ansgar Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in Osage Cemetery, Osage.

Visitation will begin 3 p.m. today at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty, with a 7 p.m. Scriptural prayer service and rosary.

John Michael Peterson was born January 24, 1961, in Vinton, son of James A. Peterson and Jean (nee Eiel) Peterson.

He married Colette Staudt on Aug. 21, 1993, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty.

John grew up in Vinton and graduated from Washington High School in Vinton in 1979. He attended Luther College and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames in 1983 with a Bachelor of Animal Science. He was co-owner and manager of St. Ansgar Lumber Company. John had a great sense of humor and he was very close to his family. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing.

He was a member of St. Ansgar Catholic Church, the First Responders and the Lions Club in St. Ansgar. He was a lifetime member of Iowa State University Alumni and the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.

Survivors include his wife, Colette and their infant son, Philip Michael, born July 20, 1995, of St.Ansgar; his parents, Jim and Jean Peterson, of Vinton; his parents-in-law, Donald and Betty Staudt, of Dougherty; two brothers, Steve Peterson and his wife, Kate of Madison, Wis., and Randy Peterson and his wife, Julie of Vinton; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Staudt-Netzel and her husband, Mike, of Monroe, Wis., and Connie Trautman and her husband, Dan of Cedar Rapids; two brothers-in-law, Christ Staudt and his wife, Shelle, of Dougherty, and Morris Staudt and his wife, Cindy of Dougherty; his grandfather-in-law, Vern Merfeld, of Greene; and nine nieces and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.
