Funeral services were held Monday, October 10, 1988 at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, Iowa, for Leighton C. Zobel, 74, of Clear Lake. Burial was in Clear Lake Cemetery. Mr. Zobel died Friday, October 7, 1988, at his home of natural causes.
He was born in Cerro Gordo County on March 21, 1914, the son of Augusta amd Maude (Carr) Zobel. He attended Ventura schools.
He married Leona Humphrey on January 13, 1935 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He was a hired hand for various farms. After marrying, he farmed in the Ventura and Fertile area until 1947. They then moved to Riceville and farmed until 1962. They then moved to Mitchell and then to Osage. He worked at White Farm, Charles City, from 1959 until he retired in 1975. They then moved to Clear Lake in 1975. He then drove as an escort for different trucking companies for several years after retirement.
He was a former member of David Community Church and an active member of Senior Citizens Center, both of Clear Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Stevenson of Waverly, Betty Brummer of Ida Grove and Beverly Brownlow of Tallahassee, Florida; one son, James of Ionia; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Myron of Hemet, Calif.
