Norma Linda Rosel Gerlach
Funeral services wre held Wednesday, December 21, 1988 at United Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, for Norma Linda (Rosel) Gerlach, age 74. Rev. Bill Jenkins officiated, and burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
Norma Linda Rosel Gerlach was born on a farm in Newburg Township, Mitchell county, Iowa, on December 22, 1913. She died at her home in St. Ansgar on Monday, December 19, 1988, of natural causes.
Norma was the fourth daughter in a family of eight children of George H. Rosel and Anna Marie Runge. She was baptized on December 4, 1913 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 1, 1928. She graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1932.
On May 22, 1938, she married her high school sweetheart, Gene Gerlach. of St. Ansgar. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May. The family included two children, Gary of Des Moines, Iowa, born in 1941, and Lu Ann, born in 1945. Lu Ann died as a student of nursing at the University of Iowa on December 8, 1965.
Norma served the St. Ansgar School District as supervisor of the school lunch program from 1964 until her retirement in 1976. She was a long-time member of the St. Ansgar Methodist church, serving as Sunday School teacherm church financial secretary, and a member of the Morning Circle. She was an active volunteer in the Democratic Party and served Meals on Wheels to the elderly in her community.
Survivors include her husband, Gene of St. Ansgar, who was former general manager of Cedar Valley Electric Cooperative and former Mitchell County Supervisor; a son, Gary and daughter-in-law Dr. Karen A. Conner of Ames; seven sisters and brothers, SaVera Rosenberg of St. Ansgar, Esma Hartwig of St. Ansgar, Leola Ruehlow of St. Ansgar, Doris Erdman of Grafton, Wilma Kroneman of Grafton, George Rosel, Jr. of Bertram, and Lawrence Rosel of Rudd.
