August 22, 1917
Gilbert Russell Barney was born at Hartford, Wisconsin on May 25, 1850, and passed away August 17, 1917, being aged 67 years 3 months and 23 days. At the age of 15 or 16 Mr. Barney went to live in New York state with relatives, where he finished his education, and at the age of 21, he began work as agent for the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railroad, which he continued for twenty years. And, for the past twenty-five years, he has conducted a grocer business in Osage.
Sept. 25, 1875, Mr. Barney was united in marriage with Miss Julia Velie, of Lime Springs, Iowa. To Mr. and Mrs Barney four children have been born, of whom two daughters, Hattie, at the age of 14 years and Vera at the age of four months, and one son, Elmer, at the of 6 years, have passed away.
One daughter, Mrs. Clarabelle Grow, of Waterloo, together with the wife and mother, mourn his loss. Also there are two grandchildren. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, interment in the Osage cemetery.
