Myrtle Esther (Kroneman) Miller
ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Myrtle E. Miller, 83, of St. Ansgar, died on Saturday, February 21, 1998, at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, St. Ansgar, Mitchell county, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
Myrtle Esther Meda (Kroneman) Miller was born March 7, 1914, in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. She was the middle child of nine children born to Emil Carl Kroneman and Mary Emma (Neuman) Kroneman.
Myrtle was baptized April 4, 1914, at St. John’s Lutheran Church east of Grafton, Iowa, where she also was confirmed on March 24, 1929. She attended grade school in Rock Township and Grafton High School.
As a young girl, Myrtle worked in various homes, assisting with housework. From 1932 to 1940, she kept house for her brother, Alvin.
Myrtle was married to Leroy Miller on April 21, 1940, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Fred Ide. Leroy and Myrtle operated a grocery store in Rockford for three years before returning to St. Ansgar, where they operated Miller’s Food Store for 25 years before retiring.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa. Myrtle sang in the church choir for more than 50 years, which she enjoyed. She also sang with the Sweet Adelines for several years. She enjoyed gardening.
She entered the Good Samaritan Center on Feb. 13, 1993.
She is survived by three daughters, Marlys Nelson and her husband, Richard, of Mason City; Janice Anunson and her husband, Duane, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Darlene Behr and her husband, Delane, of Lake Mills, Iowa; one son, Ronald Miller and his wife, Darla, of Cleburne, Texas; four brothers, Lloyd Kroneman, of Grafton, George Kroneman, of Osage, Rueben Kroneman, of St. Ansgar, and Glenn Kroneman, of Carpenter; one sister, Clara Ones, of Osage; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy; one granddaughter, Gwen Nelson; two sisters, Laura Wilde and Grace Tabbert; and one brother, Alvin.
