Born at Mona, Iowa, died at St Maries, Idaho.
Mrs. W. J. Stutsman died the previous Saturday in the St. Maries hospital where she had been since June 30, cause of death was paralytic stroke caused by cerebral hemrnorhage. Gertrude Fretland was born near Mona, Iowa on Sept. 28, 1872, she died at the age of 55 years, 9 months and 23 days.
She married Walter J. Stutsman at St. Paul, Minnesota on Sept. 24, 1892 and moved to the Northwest the following year, living first in Seattle. They were in the restaurant business and moved to St. Maries in 1909 where they owned an eating establishment on the warf called the Club Cafe and Lodging House, they then built the Benewah Hotel. Althought not a member, she and her husband were always interested and believers of the teachings of the 7th day Adventist Church and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and conducted by John Halverson, a reader from the Spokane 7th Day Adventist Church. Services held in the St. Maries mortuary, burial in Woodlawn cemetery in St. Maries.
