John Carter Bell, 78

Funeral services for John Carter Bell, 78, who died October 22, 1994, were held Wednesday, October 26 at the United Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa, with the Rev Robert Lemmermann officiating.

John Carter Bell was born March 31, 1916 to Amos and Ivie Bell of Lyle, Minnesota. John grew up in and around Lyle, Minnesota.

On July 28, 1936 he was united in marriage to Ena May Nagle at the First Baptist Church, Osage. They made their home at a farm site north of Lyle, Minnesota. Their first son Harlan was born there. They moved to Austin, Minnesota where John worked for Hormel. John and his family moved west of Clarksville where he farmed with his father. James and Russell were born there. They then moved to a farm northeast of St. Ansgar where they farmed until 1955 when Art and Lee Tribbensee bought the farm. At that time John and family moved to the Suchy farm southeast of St. Ansgar.

They stayed there until 1964 when they moved to a farm west of St. Ansgar, farming there until 1973 when he sold out. John and Ena moved to St. Ansgar and John worked for H.L.Mckinley on their farms until retirement.

John is survived by his wife, Ena; three sons, Harlan of Omaha, Nebraska, James and wife Nancy of St. Ansgar. Russell and wife Sandra of Hudson; six grandchildren, Gail and Stephen Smith; Dean and Rebecca Bell; Dawn and Christopher Standing. Renae and Tim Wason, Susan and Dave Pearl, and Karen Bell; five great grandchildren. Michael and Matthew Smith, Amanda Bell, Shelbe and Hunter Wason, one sister, Sue Marriott**, Oceanside, California.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Grace Ames, and an infant brother, Harlan.

Burial was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.
