OSAGE, IOWA — Nadine Hernan, 87, of Osage, died Monday (Aug. 15, 2005) at the Faith Home in Osage.

Nadine was born Nov. 1, 1917, in Bokn, Norway, the daughter of Eric and Dina (Gjismervig) Loden. Nadine immigrated to the United States at the age of 9. The family lived in New Sharon, Iowa, before moving to the Little Cedar area, where they farmed. Nadine graduated from the Little Cedar High School.

Nadine was united in marriage to Glen Hernan on Sept. 30, 1936, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They started farming in the New Haven area and northeast of Osage. In 1943, they purchased a farm southwest of St. Ansgar. Nadine was an active partner in their farming operation. After their retirement from farming in 1981, they moved to Osage. They were active members of the Sons of Norway. Nadine was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She enjoyed fishing, dancing and chocolate. She passed along to her children and grandchildren her love of Norwegian cooking, and her Norwegian heritage.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, where there will be a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Scripture service at 6 p.m.

Nadine is survived by one daughter, Janice Duren, of Osage, and her five children, Deb Pederson of Raymore, Mo., Julie (Ken) Gabby of Byron, Minn., Vicki (Steve) Johnson of Osage, Marlin (Kelli) Duren of Osage, John Duren and friend, Araceli Angel of Chandler, Ariz.; two sons, Montel Hernan and wife, Kay, of St. Ansgar, and their five children, Christine (Ervin) Follmuth of Mason City, Charlene (Jim) Pajer of Carpenter, Carolyn (John) Werner of Osage, Darlene Niess of Osage, Geri (Dan) Angiulli of Appleton, Wis., and Neil Hernan and wife, Theresa, of St. Ansgar, and their three children, Jessy Hernan of St. Louis, Mo., Jill Hernan and fiancé, Matt Fee of Coralville, and Becca Hernan of St. Ansgar; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Emma (John) Seckar of Charles City and Ruth (Jack) Fritcher of Saratoga; one brother, Don (Millie) Loden of Buffalo, Wyo., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen Hernan in September of 2002; six sisters, and one brother.
