RICEVILLE, IOWA — Owana Margaret Minor, 95, of Riceville, passed away on Tuesday (May 4, 2004) at the Riceville Community Rest Home.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Gale Richards and the Rev. Gary Gilbert officiating, with burial in the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Owana Margaret Minor was born on Dec. 26, 1908, in Riceville, to James W. and Olive Coyer Benson. Ten days after her birth and the passing of her mother, Owana was raised by Charles and Ada Root and their daughters, Fannie and Velma, until she was 16 years old.

Owana graduated from Riceville High School in 1926.

On Nov. 5, 1927, Owana was united in marriage to Harry D. Minor in Riceville.

She was an active member of the Riceville and David communities.

Owana was a homemaker and helped her husband in farming.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Lenth and her husband, Dale, of Riceville, and Margaret Scott of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; a half sister, Bernice Wright, of Santa Ana, Calif.; and a special niece, Anita Minnis, of Riceville.

Owana was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
