OSAGE, IOWA — Ed Smolik, 99, of Osage, died on Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Ed was born on December 21, 1904, in Brainard, Nebraska, the son of Frank and Anna (Cejka) Smolik. He attended school in Brainard and finished his schooling in North Dakota. Ed moved with his family to Iowa, ending up in the Osage area in 1927.
Ed was united in marriage to Evelyn Ahrens on October 28, 1947, at Eden Presbyterian Church. The couple made their home on a farm near Osage, in which he currently resided.
He was a co-founder of “Cedar Valley Memories” in Osage. He enjoyed antiques, no matter if it was farm machinery or household furnishings. Ed was a member of the Osage Masonic Lodge 102 A.F. & A.M.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Church of Christ in Osage, with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a masonic service at 4:30 p.m., and further visitation one hour before the service on Monday at the church.
He is survived by two sisters, Helen Lund of Stanwood and Lydia Deal of Boone; by two brothers, Ray Smolik of Osage and Duane Smolik of San Jose, California; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife, Evelyn, in 1998; two brothers, George and Ernest Smolik; and two sisters, Adeline Michels and Libbie Smolik.
