WILBUR WINTERTON
ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Wilbur Winterton, age 98, of St. Ansgar, died on Monday (Feb. 23, 2004) at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
Visitation will be after 11 a.m. on Friday and continues until service time at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar.
Wilbur was born on May 22, 1905, in Thor, Iowa, the son of George and Eda (Flemmig) Winterton. He grew up in and attended school in the Thor and Forest City areas.
He farmed in the Grafton and St. Ansgar areas. He was also involved in trucking and agri products.
He served in the U. S. Army at Camp Carson, Colo., from 1942 to 1943.
He retired in 1970, moving to St. Ansgar, where he resided until entering the nursing home the last two months. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mayme Lovik and Ester Watton; three brothers, Alvie, Earl and Merle.
Wilbur is survived by three sisters, Vernice Wetzel of St. Ansgar, Laura Mostek of Mitchell, and Marcella Ohnemus of Fall Creek, Wis.; also many nieces and nephews.
