Ruth E. (Penney) Arnold, age 75, of Mason City and formerly of Little Cedar, died on Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 3, at the Little Cedar United Methodist Church in Little Cedar. The Rev. Robert W. Lemmermann officiated. Interment was in the Little Cedar Cemetery.

Ruth was born on June 18, 1926 in Little Cedar, the daughter of Clinton "Joe" and Thelma (McPhail) Penney. Ruth graduated from the Little Cedar High School in 1943 and then received her teaching degree from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She taught elementary school for various school districts throughout South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. She began her teaching career in a rural school in Mitchell County. From there she taught for a number of years in Lansing and Osage. She continued her career teaching in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Richfield, Minnesota, before moving to Mason City. She was an active supporter of school and college activities that her children were involved in.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Dean and Rex Penney.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Patricia Fankell and husband, Bill of Des Moines and Penney Arnold of Des Moines; one son, Mark Arnold of Spokane, Washington; and one sister, Maxine McSweeney and her husband, Bob of Osage.

The Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage was in charge of the arrangements.

RUTH E. (PENNEY) ARNOLD

LITTLE CEDAR - Ruth Arnold, 75, longtime resident of Mason City, and formerly of Little Cedar, died Thursday (May 30, 2002) at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and one hour before services at the church.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Fankell and her husband, Bill, of Des Moines, and Penny Arnold, of Des Moines; one son, Mark Arnold, of Spokane, Wash.; and one sister, Maxine McSweeney and her husband, Bob, of Osage.
