ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Wayne Ritter, 89, of St. Ansgar, died Sunday (Jan. 25, 2009) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter, with the Rev. Rose Marie Nack, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar, with a Masonic service at 6:30 p.m.

Austin Wayne Ritter was born on July 2, 1919, at Dougherty, the son of Austin and Mary (Beck) Ritter. He attended school at Mitchell, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army for nearly four years. He was a plasterer for many years.

He was united in marriage to Sara Priem on June 23, 1973, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, and worked at the Carpenter Lumber and Hardware until his retirement in 1980 when they moved to St. Ansgar. He was a member of the American Legion, Deer Creek Lutheran Church and Osage Masonic Lodge No.102.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Claire; one sister, Pauline; and one step-son Ronald.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Sara; three step-daughters, Donna Kirchgatter, Byron, Minn., Joanne (Dave) Westrem, St. Ansgar, Lori (Glenn) Cimmiyotti, Stacyville, step-daughter-in-law, Lynn (Harlan) Hobbs, sister-in-law, Alberta Ritter, Des Moines; five grandchildren, Todd (Sandy) Kirchgatter, Jeremy (Amber) Westrem, Amber (Rob) Sherrard, Cari (Tyler) Johanns and Logan Cimmiyotti; three great-grandchildren, Kaela and Karly Kirchgatter and Aubrey Sherrard.

The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 641-713-4920, is in charge of arrangements.
