OSAGE, IOWA - Frances A. Smalley, age 88, of Osage and formerly of Orchard, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Interment will be at the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in New Haven.

Visitation is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, Friday, Aug. 30, 2002, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage where there will be a Scripture Service at 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Frances was born July 25, 1914 in rural Alta Vista, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Koudelka) Kobliska. She was united in marriage to Melburn Smalley on Nov. 14, 1933, in Charles City. They farmed the Smalley Family Farm near Orchard until 1988, when they retired. They continued to live on the farm until 1998 and then moved to the Evergreen Retirement Home in Osage. She was a life time member of NABA. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven and the Altar Society.

Frances is survived by three daughters: Janet Penney and her husband Gregg of Minneapolis, Minn., Karen Fox and her husband Ivo of Orchard, Joyce DuShane and her husband Neal of Fort Collins, Colo.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters: Amy Hennagir of Charles City, Pauline Nockels and husband Don of Mesa, Ariz.; Lorraine Talyat of Pismo Beach, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Melburn A. Smalley in 2001; two sisters: Helen Smalley and Arlene Greenwood.

Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage is in charge of arrangements.
