Lloyd Jellum, age 89, of Osage died Sunday January 18, 2009, at the Osage Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Osage, Mitchell county, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Inurnment will be at the Osage Cemetery. There will be a time for lunch and fellowship following services at the church.
Lloyd was born December 23, 1919 in Osage, the son of Gunder and Hilda (Thoresen) Jellum. He attended school in Osage and graduated from Osage High School.
In February, 1944 Lloyd enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Germany during World War II. He was captured and was a prisoner of war in Germany. After returning to Iowa, he attended St. Olaf College and Luther College where he received his bachelor's degree. Lloyd later received his master's degree from the University of Minnesota and subsequently received his C.L.U. degree.
On June 28, 1947, Lloyd was united in marriage to Inez Skogsmark in Decorah. They made their home in Tacoma, WA, where Lloyd worked as a broker for Lutheran Brotherhood and then later as an administrator for the Seattle Public Library. Lloyd and Inez had two sons, Mark and Eric. Inez died on January 4, 1996, and Lloyd returned to his hometown of Osage in 1997. Lloyd later married Helen Skogsmark.
Lloyd was a charter member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Tacoma, WA, a life member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War, and a lifetime member of both the American Legion and V. F. W.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Helen Jellum of Osage; his two sons, Mark (Christine) Jellum of Osage; Eric (Annette) Jellum of Osage; grandchildren, Trula Schafer, Edmonds, WA; Jeff (Katie) Schafer and their sons Samuel and Joseph of Cedar Rapids; Joshua Schafer, Kent, WA; sister-in-law, Eileen Gerwick of CA; first cousin, Leonard Thoresen of Osage; four nieces, Loras Mae Goddard, Paula Jellum, Dixie Jellum and Sandra Conrow; nephew, Eddie Jellum.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Inez, two brothers, Edwin and Harold Jellum, two sisters, Evelyn Haskell and Vera Hickey and a nephew Ronald Jellum.
