Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Edward Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.
Marlys (nee Palmer) Adrian was born on July 26, 1923 in Union Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, to Link and Martha (Markow) Palmer. She was baptized on Oct. 8, 1923, by the Rev. H.G. Dickman. She attended grade school in St. Ansgar and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1941. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. Paul Brammer on June 12, 1942. She was secretary to L.E. Liffring, lawyer, and then bookkeeper at St. Ansgar Lumber Co., before marrying Wilmer Adrian on June 20, 1943, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. They made their home on and farmed the family farm, retiring in 1985, but still making their home on the family farm.
Marlys had a strong spiritual faith. She was a member of Church Friendship Club and she sang in the church choir for many years. She belonged to her church circle since its organization and served as leader and secretary-treasurer through her active years.
Marlys dearly loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to cook and bake. She loved nature -- the trees, flowers, plants, the sky -- the beauty of it all.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis and his wife Anna Adrian of Mason City, and Daryl and his wife Diane of Nora Springs; by four grandchildren: Michelle (Adrian) Bergman and her husband, Mike of Seattle, Wash., Matthew Adrian of Portland, Oregon, Tanya (Adrian) Garnett and her husband, Ted of Cedar Rapids, and Amanda Adrian of Des Moines; and by three great-grandsons, Jacob Wyatt and Zachariah and Cameron Garnett.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Link and Martha Palmer, and by her sister, Marjorie (Palmer) Rogers.
