Funeral services for Mrs. Otto Bartz, age 78, who died at her home in Barton township, Worth county, Iowa, on Sunday morning, January 7, 1952, were held last Thursday afternoon, January 11, 1951, at her home and at Rock Creek Lutheran church with the Rev. F.E. Ide officiating.
Amalie Ottilie (nee Rachut) Bartz was born October 10, 1872 in the province of Pommerania, Germany, the daughter of Gustav Rachut and his wife Wilhelmine (nee Kronemann). She was received into the Sacrament of Holy Baptism soon after her birth.
At the age of four she came to this country with her parents who settled in Mitchell county and in this community of Rock Township.
She was confirmed by Pastor J.L. Zeilinger on April 18, 1886. On October 3, 1895 she was united in marriage with Otto Bartz of this community, to whom she was a faithful helpmate for 55 years. Pastor Westenberger solemnized their marriage. This union was blessed with nine chiuldren, three girls and six boys, two boys passing in early infancy.
In the fall of 1945 Mrs. Bartz was privileged to observe the 50th anniversary of her marriage with her husband, in the midst of her children and friends. While there were times of serious illness in her earlier life, all in all her health was comparatively good through the years.
About a year ago she became afflicted with heart trouble and her eyesight became impaired. Friday morning, January 5, she suffered a severe heart attack from which she apparently recovered and on Sunday morning, January 7 her family found her unusually bright and in the best of spirits. Then at 9:30 a.m. she suddenly succumbed.
Mrs. Bartz is survived by her husband, Otto Bartz, and her children: Mrs. Josephine Dutte of St. Ansgar, Erwin Bartz of Kensett, Mrs. Mattie Borchardt of Mitchell, Lawrence Bartz at home, Arthur Bartz of Osage, Mrs. Hildegard Dieterich of Grafton; also 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two brothers, Edward and Albert Rachut of Mitchell, and numerous other relatives and friends. Her parents, two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Ide conducting the committal services.
