Norma Birkholz, 90, of Orchard, Mitchell county, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Norma Evelyn Brown Birkholz was born January 6, 1917, in Floyd County, the daughter of Hugo and Hazel (Clark) Brown. She graduated from the Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Charles City.

On June 24, 1936, she was united in marriage to Harley Birkholz at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. They farmed all of their lives south of New Haven. In her later years Norma worked as a nurse aide at Riverside Chautauqua and Colonial Manor. She was a member of Saint Peter’s Church at New Haven, the Altar Society and W.B.A. Norma’s interests included flowers, gardening, birds, cooking and baking.

Living family members include a son, Duane (Carole) Birkholz of Osage; a daughter, Donna (Joe) Hying of Waterford, WI; 19 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadine Howe of Rockford and Shirley Temple of Charles City; and a sister-in-law, Irene Birkholz of Sheffield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on February 25, 1986; a daughter, Beverly Lubbert; a grandson, Edward Hying; a granddaughter; and two brothers, Veryl and Eldon Brown.
