EARLY PASSING OF FINE
YOUNG LADYDied Suddenly Monday Morning
After Illness Of But A Few DaysIt is common knowledge that we are never prepard for the coming of the death angel, and when the summons is for one still in youth, our lack of preparedness is greater, especially if there has been apparent health until within a short time of the passing. Such were the circumstances that accompained the going from our midst of Clara Odden.
Clara Julia Odden was born at the Odden homestead in the Rock Creek settlement, March 27, 1898, and died in the same home, where she was born, March 29, 1920, at the age of __ years and 2 days.
She attended the rural schools of her home district until she had completed the 8th grade. In the fall of 1915, she entered Cedar Valley seminary, where she spent her first year in academic work. She then transferred to the business department and completed a combined bookkeeping and stenographic couse in 1917.
After her graduation she was cashier and bookkeeper in the Daylight store until July, 1919, when she became bookkeeper in the Farmers National Bank, which position she held until her final illness.
She was baptized and confirmed in her Christian faith at the Rock Creek Lutheran church of which she always was a member. It is believed that the good seed sown in her heart in childhood and youth, now has borne abundant fruit for eternal life. In accordance with her confession on her sick and death bed, the word of God had established a firm faith in her Saviour.
She expressed her desire to go home and be with him, linquishing willingly life here to take it up there and join the earthly father, who had gone on before. It was a great comfort and help to her when some member of the family read portions of the scripture to her.
Her illness was of short duration. It started with a small abcess on her face. Blood poison developed and the end came in about a week.
She is survived by her mother, three sisters, Olga, who is teaching in the Osage schools; Stella (Mrs. Gilbert Anderson); Mable at home and her brother, Lloyd, also at home.
Her father, Carl Odden died April 13, 1914.
The funeral was held Wednesday, March 31. A short devotion at the home and service at Rock Creek Lutheran Church of which she always was a member. She was laid to rest on the family lot in the Lutheran cemetery near the Rock Creek church.
A fine young woman has been called from among us. As a student she showed splendid capabilities and enthusiasism for all school activities. As an employe she was cordial, reliable and efficient, being well fitted for a business career. In character she was of a sunny disposition, made many friends, and was quietly appreciative of the better things of life.
Expressions of loss and sympathy are universal.
"So not alone we stand upon that shore "Twill be as tho' we had been there before."
We shall meet more we knew
Than we can meet below. And find our rest like some returning dove,
And be at home at once without eternal love."[ Mitchell County Press - May 31, 1920 ]
