Edwin Henry Dushane was born October 6, 1852, at Philadelphia, Penn. When he was seven years of age his parents moved to Rock Prairie, Wisconsin.
In the fall of 1869, they came to Iowa, where he has since remained spending a portion of his time on the farm and the remainder at his work in various towns. He obtained the rudiments of his education in the rural schools near his home and later atteded the Semnary at Osage for several years.

December 25, 1877 he was married to Fanny E. Jeffries, of Rock, who with four children are left to mourn the loss of a truly beautiful character. The eldest son,Claude, died in infancy. Jesse resides at Northwood, George, Clem and John at Osage. Two brothers and two sisters also survive him, Mrs. Anna Schofield of Northwood, John DuShane of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Mrs Ella Cleveland of Mitchell, and Geo. L. DuShane of St. Ansgar. His father and mother have both passed on before him.

December 31, 1908, God in His infinite love and wisdom gathered the poor tired soul into His loving arms and bore him away to the Heavenly mansions, there to begin the happiest of New Years, where God shall wipe away all tears from his eyes and there shall be no more death; neither sorrow nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain.

He was ever a guiet and unostentatious man but with the kindest of hearts,a man whose good deeds were many even if quietly and unobtrusively preformed. Standing beside the casket looking at the well known features cold and still in death, an acquantance said " He never spoke an ill word of anyone." Another said, "He always had a kind word for me."

Although owing to circumstances he was unable to attend church regularly, none the less was he a
consistent Christian whose watchword was, "Do good deeds, not speak them all day long."

He always remained in the sphere where God had placed him, battling each day with trials but winning his fight without plaudits and often without even the knowledge of those nearest him.
All the elements of Christian character were brought in to play, self control, reason, patience and that ripe cluster of fruits of the Sprirt that goes with them. Are not these characteristics of the true Christian? He that ruleth his spirit is greater than he that taketh a city.

And now for him the toil and stress of a busy life, the trials and tribulations of a hard world are over and the brave patient soul has come into his own with rejoicing. Verily, for him it may truthfully be said, "Sorrow endureth for a night but joy cometh in the morning."
