Birth: Jun. 15, 1918
Death: Feb. 12, 1982Marvel "Slim" Shafer was born in Holyolk, Colorado and attended school there. He came to the St. Ansgar area in 1954, coming in with the carnival, and made his home with Henry and Ann Lievrouw and their family.
Slim was employed in construction at various jobs in the St. Ansgar area and also worked as a farmhand for the Hansen brothers and also Kittleson Brothers.
He liked to pickup cans along the roadsides and was also an avid fisherman. Slim knew all the great fishing holes along the Cedar River. He would hide his fishpole alongside a log near the river, conceal it with leaves so no one would know whenever he was coming from or going fishing.
He is survived by his father, John Shafer of California, one brother, Norman, a half brother Wayne, two half sisters, Phyllis and Joan and aunts and uncles in Brosely, Missouri, and Sterling and Brush, Colorado.
