Mary Adelaide Lower was born at Manor, Lake Co., Ohio, July 9, 1850 and died at Mitchell, So. Dak. Feb. 18, 1914, aged 63 years, 7 months and 10 days. She moved with her people to Osage, Iowa, as a child, where she grew to womanhood.
She was married at Osage, Ia, to James M. Roberts, December 23, 1868, at the age of 18.
With her husband she moved to Dodgeville, Wisc., later they moved back to Iowa, and then to So. Dakota in 1889 and settled on a farm 9 miles southeast of Plankinton, the family moved to town in 1904. The husband and father died 20 years ago.Mrs. Roberts was the mother of twelve children, who grew to manhood and womanhood estate, eight boys and four girls. All the children are living, except one son, James F., and all were present at the funeral. She also had four sisters living, three of whom were present.
Mrs. Roberts was one of the first pupils and graduates of Cedar Valley Seminary at Osage, Ia.
She excelled as a daughter, sister, wife, neighbor and mother, and to know her was to believe in and love her.
Funeral was conducted from the M.E. church Friday p.m. at 2 o'clock by Rev. O. M. Hyde.
A very comforting sermon was delivered and selections chosen by the chior were favorite songs of the departed.The following children were present at the funeral: Mary E. Frandsen, Plankinton; Charley Roberts and Sarah E. Williams of Buffalo Gap; John J. Roberts, Plankinton; Marlon M. Roberts, Brookfield, Mo.; Lorene M. Phillips, Geo. W., Jesse H., Rowland C. and Miss Jennie F. all of Plankinton, and Roy of Woolsey.
Mrs. Emma Franham of Charles City, Iowa, Mrs. Nettie McKenna of Osage, Iowa, and Mrs. H. C. Sessions of Sioux Falls, were in attendence at the funeral of their sister, Mrs. Roberts, Friday.
