STACYVILLE, IOWA - Leo Smith, age 101, of Stacyville, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at the Stacyville Nursing Home.

Funeral services for Leo Smith will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2008 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Father John Moser officiating. Burial will take place at the Visitation Cemetery.

Leo Smith was born July 31, 1907, in Adams Township, Minnesota, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Krebsbach) Smith.

Leo married Stella Heimerman on October 26, 1937, at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. He grew up on a farm north of Stacyville. He farmed for 75 years. The last farm was six miles northwest of Stacyville where he and Stella raised their family. They moved to Stacyville in 1986.

He was known for his faith, gentle spirit and hard work. He loved farming and gardening and took special pride in raising potatoes, until three years ago.

He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and Visitation Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Stella, of Stacyville; son Daniel (Sharon) Smith, of Burnsville, Minn.; daughters, Barbara Thome of Stacyville, Marilyn (Robert) Lermon of Mantorville, Minn., and Marian (Art) Anderson of Faribault, Minn.; nine granddaughters, 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernard Smith of Stacyville and Gerwin Smith of Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Smith; sisters, Martha Jax and Margaret Smith; brothers, Nick, Greg, Ray and Gilbert; great-grandsons, Sam and Adam Bruggeman; and, son-in-law Norbie Thome.

Arrangements are with the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, Iowa, 641-713-4920.
