Marie M. (Behle) Metzger, of Osage, at age 87, joined her Savior in heaven on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, Osage, with The Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a public scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.
Marie Martha Behle was born twenty minutes before her twin sister, Maurine Magdaline, on December 25, 1920, on the family farm six miles east of Alden, Minnesota, twin daughters of Edward C. and Rosetta A. (Steele) Behle. She was baptized on January 5, 1921, and after a year of full time confirmation classes, she confirmed her faith on April 14, 1935, at Concordia-Pickeral Lake Lutheran Church, rural Albert Lea, Minnesota. Marie graduated from Alden High School in 1940. She continued her education many years later at Hawkeye Tech in Waterloo, and graduated in 1972 as an L.P.N.
Marie was united in marriage to Paul F. Metzger of Wapakoneta, Ohio, on June 12, 1946, at Concordia-Pickeral Lake Lutheran Church. They served Lutheran congregations in New London, Wisconsin, St. Paul and Hector, both in Minnesota, and Greene and Meroa, both in Iowa. For the past three years, Marie resided at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Marie has been an active member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church for 34 years and cherished this special Christian family. She was a member of the Shakespearian Club and Mitchell County Republicans. Marie was very proud of every one of her five children and 13 grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her children, Nancy Dulany of Pierre, South Dakota, Tim (Judith) Metzger of Obermeitingen, Germany, Beth (Jim) Olsen of Osage, The Rev. Daniel (Nancy) Metzger of Wichita, Kansas, Paul (Sue) Metzger of McKinney, Texas; her grandchildren, Matt and Alyssa Dulany, Tashiana, Breanna, and Caitlyn Metzger, Jake (Liz) Olsen, Sarah (Adam) Miller, Meg Olsen and Alex Olsen, Anastasia, Luke, and Hannah Metzger, Katie Metzger; her twin sister, Maurine Levisen of Albert Lea, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Treva Metzger of St. Marys, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Marie leaves to join her parents; her husband, Paul; a brother, Harold Behle; brothers-in-law, Earl Levisen, Kenneth Metzger, and John Morris; and sisters-in-law, Lauretta Morris and Lavon Behle.
