LAUGHLIN

L. J. Laughlin was born in Vermont May 29, 1823, and resided there during all of his early life.

On December 24, 1846, he was united in marriage with Miss Maria Mason in St. Lawrence county, New York. They moved from New York in the year 1867 and came to Mitchell county, where they had a pleasant home until January, 1903, when Mrs. Laughlin was taken from this earthy life to her home in heaven. Since the time of her death the husband has made his home with his children, and it was at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Adams in Colorado, where he died December 4, 1904.

Mr. Laughlin left Osage last October to spend the winter with his daughter. There are seven children left to mourn his loss, Willard, Frank and Austin of Osage; Mrs. Adams of Colorado, Orman of Downsville, Wisconsin; James and Mrs. Hattie Brown of Sisseton, South Dakota. The body was brought to Osage and the burial services were held at the home of his son Willard, last Sunday, conducted by Rev. B. C. Preston. The body was laid to rest in the Osage Cemetery.

Mr. Laughlin was a man of sturdy habits and during his life time in Osage took deep interest in the town's affairs. For a number of years he was a member of the city council, in which body his good judgment was often relied upon by his colleagues. One of his principal aims during his connection with the council was in promoting the interests of the Cemetery Association, and the present beautiful burial ground is largely due to the results of his labors while a member of the council. He was an honored member of the Masonic order of this city, under whose auspicies the last sad rites were conducted.
