Memorial services for Phyllis R. McKinley, 68, of St. Ansgar, who died Sunday, June 16, 1991, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City, were held Tuesday, June 18 at the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar.

Phyllis Reeve was born in Cedar Falls December 24, 1922. In 1940 she graduated from Teachers College High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, graduating in 1943 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and drama.

She taught English in Napier for one year and then in St. Ansgar from 1944 to 1947.

June 24, 1946, she married Philip Myerly McKinley in Cedar Falls. The two made their home in St. Ansgar, where Philip farmed until his death in 1976. Together they raised six children. In 1978 Phyllis began to work for World Book Encyclopedia, which she continued until her death.

Phyllis was an active member of her community. For thirty years she served as a Girl Scout volunteer, earning the prestigeous Thanks Badge. Since 1948, she has been a member of the IC Club along with participating in numerous other volunteer activities. She was an avid lover of books and nature.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann Randall of Sioux Falls, South dakota; Jane McKinley of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and Priscilla Whalen of Iowa City; two sons, William McKinley of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and Philip McKinley of Okemos, Michigan; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marcia, and her husband, Philip.
