George T. Hansen
Former Resident
Dies in Montana

George Hansen, 66, a former well-known Mitchell County resident, died at a hospital at Glendive, Montana, Sunday from an illness of almost exactly a year. Mr. Hansen was stricken with embolism September 17, 1942, and had been in failing health since. He was taken to the hospital from his home at Wibaux Montana for treatment a short time before his death.

Mr. Hansen was born at Mona, Iowa, on February 24, 1877, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Halver Hansen. His boyhood was spent in the Mona vicinity, then he came to Osage to enter the Cedar Valley seminary.

His marriage to Alda Wilson, of Osage took place about 36 years ago. They were parents of one son, Marion, of Great Falls, Montana.

Mr. Hansen is well-remembered here as a clerk at the E. E. Johnson and Leuthold & Evans stores. He was elected county recorder and served a term and a half. Then he resigned to go to Wilbaux, where he became a partner with his brother, H.B. Hansen, and his brother-in-law, E.B. Sherman, in a hardware buiness. He left the management of the store to his partners, however and operated a grain elevator. (In 1930 H. B. Hansen sold his interest in the store and returned to St. Ansgar.)

Mr. Hansen was active in public affairs of Wibaux. He was director of the First National Bank, at Wilbax, and for many years had been county committeman for the Republican party. He was a Mason, a Knight Templar and a Shriner.

He is survived by his wife and son, who accompanied the remains to St. Ansgar for burial,
also by his brother, H.B. Hansen, and his sisters, Mrs. Oscar Thompson and Ella Hansen, of Lyle; Mrs. Robert Richards, of Otranto, and Mrs. E. B. Sherman, Wibaux.

Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon,at 2 o'clock at the Norwegian Lutheran church at St. Ansgar, in charge of the Reverend Olaf Langehough, and burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery.

[NOTE: H.B. Hansen is Henry Bernhart Hansen]
