Helen M. Blood, 79, of Carpenter, Iowa, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center, North Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle, Minnesota.
Helen Mae (Allison) Blood was born January 2, 1929 in Sheffield, Iowa to Harry and Fern (Mulford) Allison. She attended school and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1946.
On July 21, 1946, she married Richard Blood of Sheffield. Two children were born to this union, Nancy Marie and Steven Richard. They lived in Sheffield until 1957, then moved to St. Ansgar. She was baptized and confirmed in 1959 in the Methodist Church.
Helen worked at Ruth's Cafe and at the bowling alley. In May of 1960, she started work at the St. Ansgar Enterprise. She worked for the newspaper for 48 years, loving every minute of her time there. In 1973 they moved to Carpenter.
Helen loved sports, especially bowling, fishing and basketball.
Helen is survived by her son Steven and his wife Dolores of Carpenter, and daughter Nancy and her husband Jim Ackels of Tucson, Arizona. Three grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; one sister Dorothy Irene Buss of Piquot, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard in 1989, her parents, two brothers; AJ Allison and Raymond Allison; and one sister Violet Pickerell.
