Bob Bensend, age 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a scripture wake service at 5:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8:00 p.m.
Bob was born February 13, 1928, at Riceville, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Nina (Foster) Bensend. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. On June 18, 1949, he married Dorothy "Dottie" Klaes at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven. Bob was employed as a draftsman at White Farm in Charles City. He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. Bob's passion was golfing. He also enjoyed woodworking, crossword puzzles, and was an avid participant in activities at the nursing home. Bob enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy "Dottie" Bensend in 2000; two brothers, Dale and Marvin Bensend; a sister, Virginia Knode; and an infant sister.
Bob is survived by three daughters, Jeannine (Jim) Roufs of Delano, Minnesota, and children, Christopher, Lauren and Tiffany; Patricia Fuller of Mason City, and children, Jamie and Waylon; Marilyn (Jerry) Adams of Stacyville, and daughter, Kristin; one son, Richard (Jean) Bensend of Osage, and children, Brodie and Tyler; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Russell (Janet) Bensend of Riceville.
