Carpenter, Iowa-- Harry Dockum, age 83, of Carpenter, Mitchell County, Iowa, died on Monday, February 4, 2008 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage. Memorial services were held on Friday afternoon, February 8, 2008 at Deer Creek Lutheran Church, Carpenter with Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial was in the Deer Creek Cemetery.

Harry Alfred Dockum was born on October 18, 1924 in Meltonville, Iowa to Paul and Arlie (Johnson) Dockum. He graduated from Otranto High School in 1942.

Harry married Ardene Ogden on December 30, 1945 at the Missionary Alliance Church in Osage, Iowa. They farmed and operated a TV sales and repair shop one mile south of Carpenter for many years. In 1963, they moved to Carpenter and opened Dockum TV and Appliance (The Little Town with The Big Dealer) which they operated for 30 years. Harry devoted countless hours to the Carpenter Commercial Club and the Carpenter Athletic Club.

He truly appreciated his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as his neighbors and a very special community of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Arlie Dockum; his wife Ardene Dockum; daughter Gloria (Dockum) McNealy; son David Dockum; sister Rosamond (Dockum) Gordon and son-in-law Wayne McNealy.

Harry is survived by his son Gary and wife Carol (Piper) Dockum of Rock Falls, Iowa. Grandchildren Aaron Dockum and Angie of Mason City, Iowa; Jessica Dockum of Rock Falls, Iowa; Joshua Dockum of Rockfalls, Iowa; Millisa Bakkum and Ron of Osage, Iowa; Kiersten Goyette and Tracy of Osage, Iowa; Great-grandchildren: Isaac Dockum, Jacob Lister, Joe Lister, Destiny Dunbar, Jacob Dunbar, Yngwie Goyette, Trenton Goyette, Cynthia Goyette, a brother, Gerald Dockum (Madeline) of Des Moines, Iowa. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and special friend Margaret Finch.

Arrangements were by Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.
