ST. ANSGAR, IOWA -- Doris Ione Grundel, age 86, of St. Ansgar, died on Monday, January 28, 2008,at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Peter Chang officiating. Burial will be in the Woodbury Cemetery, rural Lyle, Mower County, Minnesota.
Doris was born on November 23, 1921 near Floodwood, Minnesota, the daughter of Glenn Foy and Velma Ione (Garrett) Chapin. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith. She attended Plymouth High School, Plymouth, Iowa, graduating in 1936.
Doris married George Grundel on January 30, 1943 in Plymouth, Iowa at the home of her parents. They farmed in the Nora Springs and Carpenter area, with Doris being an active part of the farming operation. She taught Sunday school for many years and was president of the Womens Group at the Otranto Community Church. She enjoyed yatzee, dancing and was an excellent cook. Doris loved children which was reflected in the babysitting of grandchildren and neighborhood children. She entered the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar in July of 2007.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; by her brother Kenneth Chapin and his wife Pauline; by her brother-in-law Roland Grundel and his wife Pearl; by twin great-grandsons, Alex and Ryan Baardseth.
She is survived by her husband George of St. Ansgar; by two sons, Dennis (Marjorie) Grundel of St. Ansgar, and Jerry (and special friend Susan Tanner) Grundel of St. Ansgar; by two grandchildren, Deborah Baardseth of Buffalo, Minnesota, and Robert Grundel of Brownsdale, Minnesota; by two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Ellie Baardseth.
Arrangements are by Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, 641-713-4920.
