Obituary.

Miss Mary Gilboy was born in Batavia, Illinois, August 8, 1855, where she lived with her parents until she reached the age of 10 years. She then came west with them settling in Wayne township.
Feb. 25th, 1871, she was united in marriage to Michael Hasting of Philadelphia by the Rev. Father McCarthy of Cresco.

Shortly afterwards, the happy couple settled in their new home near the village of Bailey, (then known as the wilderness), where they continued to live up to the time of Mrs. Hasting's death, which occurred at three o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 19, 1897.

She was the mother of twelve children, five sons and seven daughters, all of whom are alive and were at the bedside at the hour of death, with the exception of John, who is a traveling agent and could not be found until after his mother had passed away. Although she was a sufferer for the past ten years it was thought by the physicians and members of the family that she would recover from this attack, and her death after a brief illness of two days was a terrible shock to the husband and family.

The funeral services were held in the Catholic church at the Wapsie, June 21st, Rev. Father O'Brien of Riceville, conducting the services.
Her remains are at rest in the Wapsie cemetery.

Having lived in this community 32 years her life needs no comment.

We will only say that she was a faithful wife, a loving mother and a devoted Christian. That she was loved by her neighbors as she had loved them was clearly shown by the large funeral which she had, it being the largest ever witnessed in that community.
