Hilbert William "Hilly" Rogers, age 84, of Orchard, Mitchell county, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 2, 2007, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, Iowa, with Msgr. Stanley Hayek officiating.
Burial was in the Orchard Cemetery at Orchard, with military honors at the grave by Orchard American Legion Post 641 and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920.
Hilbert was born on April 27, 1923, in East Cedar Township, rural Osage, the son of Oswald and Kathryn (O'Connor) Rogers. He attended Rock Township country school, one year of high school in Osage, and graduated from Orchard High School in 1941. He attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Hilbert was in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1943-1946, serving in the Pacific Theater, the Philippines, and in Japan.
On September 2, 1947, he married Collette Rennier of Floyd, Iowa, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, Iowa. They farmed in the Floyd area and then moved onto his family farm in Orchard in 1959. He was a former mayor, councilman, and city clerk for Orchard.
Hilbert was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage, member of the Orchard Legion Post 641, was on the Mitchell County Food Bank Board, Mitchell County Farm Bureau member, member of the Mitchell County Cattlemen's Association, charter member of the Osage V.F.W., past member of the Mitchell County Fair Board, and a 4-H leader for the Horse and Pony Club for many years.
Hilbert is survived by his wife, Collette of Osage; by two sons, Rick (Darlys) Rogers of Osage, and Monte (Pat) Rogers of Orchard; by two daughters, Theresa (Ron) Muhlenbruck of Orchard, and Kathy (Jim) Orsland of Ankeny, Iowa; by nine grandchildren: Angie Boehmer, Jennifer Tresch, Beth Olson, Nick Rogers, Jeff Rogers, Chad Halbach, Lora Williams, Jacob Orsland, and Kaylene Orsland; and by nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a brother, Eugene Rogers.
