Funeral services for Joseph Thome, 86, of Stacyville, Iowa were held March 2 at Visitation Church in Stacyville. He died February 27, 1977 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

The funeral Mass was celebrated by Rev. Robert J. Reiss, Visitation pastor. Also participating were Rev. Thomas Carpender of Meyer, Rev. Joseph Griffin of Waterloo and Rev. Justin Kane of Osage. Burial was in Visitation Cemetery.

Pall bearers were grandsons, Charles Thome, Gary Thome, Mike Young, Terry Mayer, Joseph Mayer and Donald Panhoff.

Joseph Thome was born July 6, 1890 at Stacyville, Iowa, the son of John and Sarah Steiger Thome. He and Rosina Faas were united in marriage September 1, 1920 at Stacyville. They farmed in the Stacyville area until retiring to Stacyville in 1948.

Survivors are his wife Rosina; three sons, Ralph, Osage, Ben of Adams and Joseph, Jr., of Waterloo; five daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Mary) Young, Garner, Mrs. Gene (Marjorie) Mayer and Mrs. Vernon (Imelda) Mayer of Stacyville, Mrs. Ray (Lorena) Panhoff, Ventura and Mrs. Larry (Emelie) Hayungs of Cartersville, Ill.; 45 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. Other survivors are five brothers, Frank and Albert of Stacyville, Roman of Osage, John of Adams and Arnold of St. Peter, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Herman Eisterhold, Austin, and Mrs. Elizabeth Mueller, Stacyville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
